Transport - Getting to the Cottage and Surrounding Areas

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

We welcome the world to our Cottage. If you are travelling from overseas or the UK, read on for transport guides.

How to get to the Cottage and getting around once you are here:

High Whitecleugh is “Off the beaten track” and getting to the cottage will be an adventure in itself. While we have a trusty Land rover Defender for getting us around the farm we appreciate that not everyone will have a 4X4. The mile long road which takes you from the B740 to High Whitecleugh is a farm track. We do our upmost to keep it in good condition and it is tended to on a regular basis. All that we would ask is that you obey the strict 10MPH speed limit while driving on the farm track and we can guarantee you will arrive in comfort.

We recommend the easiest way to get to the cottage is to plan a ROAD TRIP!

Pack up the car with all your essentials and hit the road. If you are coming from South of the border High Whitecleugh is the ideal place to access some of the most dramatic countryside Scotland has to offer.

1.From the M74 leave the motorway at junction 13 signposted Abington.

2. Follow the signs for Crawfordjohn and the B740.

3.From Crawfordjohn If you are already in Scotland and are coming from the North please take the M74 and leave at junction 12 signposted Carin Lodge.

4.From here follow the signs for Douglas and the Crawfordjohn and the B740.

5.Again once at Crawfordjohn continue on the B740 for around 5 miles until you reach the boundary with Dumfriesshire and South Lanarkshire.

6.Turn right to Spango farm and follow the signs for the cottage from there.
